Teen Pleads Guilty To Causing November Accident

WGIL Newsroom . Local News 230

A Galesburg teenager has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in connection with an accident last November that sent six people to the hospital.

Knox County Circuit Court records indicate 17-year-old Zachary Nettleton pleaded guilty as part of a negotiation to a single misdemeanor count of Reckless Driving. Charges of Aggravated Reckless Driving and Child Endangerment were dropped.

The accident November 20th near the intersection of Losey and Clark Streets started, police say, when the blue Jeep Nettleton was driving collided with another vehicle after ignoring a stop sign. Nettleton’s vehicle then ended up in a yard after striking a tree.

Some of the passengers had to be extricated from their vehicles.

Nettleton was sentenced to a total of 15 days in the Knox County Jail starting Monday, with credit for two days already served.

An off-duty Galesbug firefighter is being credited with rushing to the aid of those hurt in the crash.
