Clark, David “Gene”

David “Gene” Clark, age 74 of Dahinda, Illinois passed away Thursday, July 03, 2014, at Marigold Care Center, Galesburg, Illinois.

Gene was born on February 18, 1940, in Cameron, West Virginia to Vencon and Zona (Ice) Clark.

He attended Moundsville schools.  On March 24, 1962, he married (Nellie) Joann Romack at Big Run Church in Cameron, West Virginia.

He served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963 and received a medal for Marksman (Rifle).  He moved to Illinois in 1964 and was employed for 21 years with Gale Products.   In addition, he was a self-employed farmer and operated Clark Drywall for several years.   He served on the Dahinda Fire Department for over 40 years.  Gene was a member of the Marshall County Antique Tractor Association, Knox County Triad, and Trenton Cemetery Committee.  He attended 48 of the 51 Dahinda church auctions and assisted with the preparations and solicited donations for many years.

He loved hunting, especially elk hunting in Colorado with friends, fishing, gas engine shows, and hanging out at the Dahinda store building.  He also enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife, Joann, his daughter, Lisa Hanson (Carl Hunt) of Dahinda, Illinois, his daughter, Donna (Mark) Abel of Wataga, Illinois and four grandchildren:  Sarah and Emily Hanson of Dahinda and Amanda and Jan Abel of Wataga, one sister, Linda Ross of Akron, Ohio, one brother, Richard Clark of Glen Dale, West Virginia, one brother-in-law, Leo Davis of Galesburg, Illinois and one sister-in-law, Carol Clark of Moundsville, West Virginia, plus many loving nieces and nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Arlean Davis of Knoxville, IIllinois, one brother, Roger Clark of Moundsville, West Viriginia and grandchildren, Madison and Mitchell Abel of Wataga, Illinois.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. David Shreeves will officiate.  Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Hurd Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Interment will be buried at Trenton Cemetery in Dahinda, Illinois, with Military Rites. Memorials may be made to the Dahinda United Methodist Church.
