Kemp, Donald D.

Donald D. “Don” Kemp, 79, of Galva, died at 5:30 PM, Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg.

Private services will be held at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Linda Winkelman will officiate. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Galva High School Building Trades Program.

He was born December 4, 1934 in Wenona, IL, the son of Horace and Iva (Gustafson) Kemp. He married Nancy S. Cresto on December 26, 1955 in Wenona, IL and she preceded him in death on July 5, 2003. Survivors include two sons, Mark (Teresa) Kemp and Tim (Deb) Kemp, both of Galva, two brothers, Dick (Marilyn) Kemp of Pheonix, AZ and Bob (Jody) Kemp of Poplar Grove, IL, seven grandchildren, Joshua (Ginger) Knowles, Justin (Jessica) Knowles, Dustin (Ruth) Lee, Mackenzie (Jake) Hankins, Melissa (Andrew) Skouge, Bryan (Rebecca) Kemp and Spencer Kemp and nine great grandchildren with one on the way. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, David in infancy, a sister, Joan Timmerman and a brother, Jerry Kemp.

Don graduated from Wenona High School. He served his country in the Air Force during peace times between the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a carpenter, owning and operating Don Kemp Construction. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. He enjoyed mowing, being outdoors and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
