The United Way of Knox County typically starts their efforts around Labor Day.
Group members try to promote income stability, education, and healthy living in their communities, among other things.
United Way of Knox County Executive Director Ann Tucker tells WGIL they want to be finished with their fundraising before the holidays hit.
“We don’t want to be in competition with anyone and we don’t want to delve into that holiday season, we want to be done well before then,” says Tucker. “Also it gives our partner agencies a little better idea to budget in 2015 and we’d like to let them know what they’ll be receiving.”
Falling short of their goal last year has given the United way a target of 350-thousand dollars this year.
The United Way’s Board of Directors wanted to ensure their partner organizations received dollars as soon as possible in the year.
