Her dream came true when she graduated with honors in 1975 from Western Illinois University with a teaching degree. After graduating, Doris Ann taught 2nd grade in Alexis for 18 years. Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting, macramé, reading, playing piano and most of all quilting, for which she won many ribbons. She wants to be remembered as a helpful sister, faithful wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and kind and helpful friend.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Don of Alexis, three sons, Mark (Pat) McKelvie of Salem, Oregon, Stephen (Joy) McKelvie of Galesburg, and Matt McKelvie of Richardson, Texas, five grandchildren, Anna, Kent, Travis, Laci and Ian, three great grandchildren, Ezra, Micah and Gavin, one sister, Joyce McCaw of North Henderson, one brother, Richard Johnson of North Henderson, two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Johnson of North Henderson and Beverly (Wayne “Gube”) Johnson of Alexis, along with nieces and nephews.
