Tuggle, Sylvia Irene Hoffman

Sylvia Ireme Hoffman Tugfle, 97, of East Moline, formerly of Abingdon and Avon, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Unity Point in Rock Island.

Irene, to friends and family, was born June 21, 1917, in Fulton County, near Table Grove to James and Helen Mae (Croyle) Ring. She grew up in various locations in Schuyler, Fulton, Knox and McDonough counties. She married Robert Hoffman in 1934 and had two daughters, Katherine and Janet, as well as one son Robert “Bobby” who died as an infant. While living in the Burlington, Iowa area she worked her own farm operation outside of Yarmouth and was an inspector at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Iowa. She served as the Grand Matron of the Danville chapter of the Eastern Stars.

She later married the love of her life Rock Tuggle in December 1970. She and Rock spent many happy years together living in Abingdon, Las Vegas, and Avon. They lived in Abingdon until Rock’s retirement from Louis Lakis Ford. In Las Vegas she worked as a bridal consultant at Goldwater’s Department Store while Rock worked at The Golden Nugget Casino. They eventually moved back to their home in Avon enjoying friends, family, quilting, church and their beloved dogs. She was a wonderful cook and an accomplished baker. Irene was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She loved traveling to visit and spending time with them. She also loved her Abingdon and Avon friends and church family very much.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rock, her daughter, Katherine Joan Newton, her son Bobby, her son-in-law, Daniel Newton, her sister, Francis and her brother-in-law, Dick Sturgeon.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet (John) Warber of Casa Grande, Arizona; her grandsons Thomas (Patty) Pratt, Moline, Illinois, Patrick (Yang Soon) Pratt, Honolulu, Hawaii, Kyle Warber, Orlando, Florida, and Andrew (Hiyana) Warber, South Korea; her granddaughters, Ann (Greg) Spears, Oswego, Illinois, Sara (Craig) Harter, Park Ridge, Illinois, Erinn Johnston, Madison, Wisconsin, Annette (Jason) Burris, Petersburg, Illinois, and Tara Warber, Casa Grande, Arizona; and two step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Snipes and Matt Newton. She also has several great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild and many cherished nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will start with visitation from 10:00 am to Noon Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel, 206 N. Washington St., Abingdon, Illinois, followed by a graveside service at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. John Prain will officiate.
