Light, Viola M.

Viola M. “Vicki” Light, 87, of Galesburg, died at 5:05 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

She was born June 5, 1927 in Schuyler County, Ill. the daughter of Vernie and Neva (Frakes) VanWinkle. She married Donald D. Light on March 24, 1946 in Galesburg.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald; three daughters, Sherry L. (and Steve) Foster of Dahinda, Ill., Connie L. (and Foster) Dickard of Jackson, Miss., and Kristi L. (and Dean) Betts of Galesburg; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Donald (and Betty) VanWinkle of Galesburg; and two sisters, Marjorie Agans of Bokeelia, Fla. and Joan (and Kenneth) Sparks of Las Vegas, Nev. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Vicki was raised in the Rushville and Macomb areas before her family moved to Galesburg in 1942. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1945. She worked at the former Gale Products Division of Outboard Marine Corporation as a motor coil winder for 30 years, retiring in 1983. Vicki was a member of the Women of the Moose. She had bowled on two leagues and enjoyed golfing, traveling, dancing, and swimming. She was a member of Wataga Congregational Church.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. David Kramer will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.
