Laird, Veronica Lynn

Veronica Lynn Laird, age 47 of Bowie, Arizona and formerly of the London Mills area, passed away at 9:03 a.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, at her home in Arizona.

She was born on January 6, 1967 in Galesburg, the daughter of Larry and Ila (Starnes) Laird.

Veronica is survived by her parents, Larry and Ila Laird of Bowie, Arizona; two brothers, Robert (and Lisa) Laird of London Mills and Gary Laird of Bowie, Arizona; one sister, Roxanne Laird of Bowie, Arizona; four nephews, Tony, Jeremy, Josh and Justin; one great-nephew, Ethan; one great-niece, Emileigh; her maternal grandmother, Grace Hook; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Robert and Madge Laird, her maternal grandfather, Milo Starnes and her maternal step-grandfather, Henry Hook.

She attended Spoon River Valley High School, where she was active in the FFA, and the Sunshine Valley 4-H Club. While a member of the FFA, she was a chapter officer and received many awards through the FFA and 4H, the highest being a member of the Illinois State Poultry Judging Team. During judging at the national competition in Louisville, Kentucky, she won several classes and was the second highest individual judge overall. After high school, she attended Carl Sandburg College and later transferred to Illinois State University.

Veronica worked as a biscuit maker at the Knoxville Hardee’s before being promoted to shift manager. She then transferred to the Mahomet, Illinois Hardee’s as the restaurant manager. She later began a career working for the Walmart Company, starting her career in the East Peoria Walmart and she then transferred to the Stafford, Arizona Walmart as the assistant manager.

She was a loving person, sister, aunt and daughter, who took care of her family. God was her guidance throughout her life and she is now in her home in Heaven forever.

Cremation will be accorded. A service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with local announcements.
