According to a news release from the City of Galesburg, an energy supplier has been soliciting Galesburg residents and small businesses.
The supplier has been going door-to-door asking if interested parties would like to sign contracts with their company.
According to the City Clerk’s office, the solicitor is a registered peddler with the Clerk’s Office, however, they do not represent the City or Ameren Illinois.
The City Clerk wants to remind people a peddler is required to show proof they’re registered with the city and they can only peddle between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
They must also obey any signs prohibiting any solicitation and, if asked, to leave they must respect the wish of the occupant.
Due to new laws deregulating the supply of energy, energy suppliers do have to right to contact potential customers.
But the City Clerk’s Office is reminding people to be cautious, saying those companies are not the “supplier of choice” and may not be able to provide the same rates as Homefield Energy who is Galesburg’s energy supplier.
