The Galesburg Post 285 American Legion baseball team has the day off, after scoring a pair of convincing wins on opening day at the District 15 postseason tournament. Galesburg crushed Canton 16-0, behind the pitching of Logan Davis and Nick Fisher. Drew Nall and Peyton Isaacson homered as Galesburg blew the game open early, and cruised to the seven-inning win. Then in the nightcap, Colton German pitched a complete game as Galesburg shutout Oneida 13-0. The double-elimination tournament continues today, but by virtue of its’ two wins yesterday, Galesburg will wait until tomorrow to play an opponent yet to be determined in Quincy. Post 285 is now 27-and-15 this summer.
The opening round of the Galesburg All-City Golf Tournament is in the books, and a trio of young golfers are on top of the leaderboard. Former Knoxville Blue Bullet Taylor Thompson fired an even-par 71 yesterday at Lake Braken to take a 3-stroke lead. A pair of Galesburg Silver Streaks–Taylor Nesselroad and Jordan Kohler–are in second and third place, with Gail Hannam in fourth. The second round is being played at Bunker Links today, with the final round scheduled for Friday at Soangetaha Country Club.
