Luna, Carlos A.

Carlos A. Luna, 84 of Galesburg passed away at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 16 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born November 2, 1929 at home in Galesburg to Juan and Leonor Flores Alvarez Luna and was married to Norma Gutierrez. She preceded him in death.

Carlos is survived by two daughters, Lori (Tony) Luna-Rochelle and Debbie Luna; four grandchildren, Rodney Luna-Metz, Autumn Elledge, Emerald Elledge, and Jordan Elledge; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Vincent (Pat) Luna, Jesse (Nancy) Luna, and Benjamin Luna; two sisters, Avie (late Jesse) Vargas and Alberta (late Jesse) Vega; ten nieces, Roselee, Yolanda, Gloria, Vicky, Christie, Jeannie, Annette, Patty Ann, Jeannie and Loma; eleven nephews, Jesse, Jr., Jay, Johnny, Jeff, Aaron, Rick, Billy, Timmy, Adam, and Dean; and family he had lived with, Becky (Rigo) Avila and Eric Elias.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim Luna, Nick Luna, and Frank Mejia; two sisters, Tony Luna and Margaret Gimenez; one infant brother, two half brothers, one half sister, and one son, Rodney Carlos Luna.

Carlos served in the United States Army from 1948 to 1952 as a paratrooper, and worked many jobs during his life. His first job was as a translator for the railroad. He also worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, W.A. Jordan’s, and Admiral as well as serving as a City Councilman. Carlos loved sports, especially golf, baseball, and football and was a member of the LULAC Club. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.

Cremation has been accorded with Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. A Celebration of Life will be from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, July 19 in the Community Room at Sandburg Mall. Memorial donations may be made to the family. Expressions of sympathy may be given to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
