The Galesburg American Legion Baseball Team won its 8th straight 15th District championship yesterday, by beating the Oneida post at the Quincy Tourmament 17-5. Drew Claeys and Drew Nall each scored home runs en route to a victory, which saw post 285 score five runs in the first inning, and six runs in the 7th inning. Logan Davis was the winning pitcher for the 29-15 Post 285 team. They’ll now play Calhoun County in the 3rd District Tournament Monday at noon in Jerseyville.

CAL RIPKEN BASEBALL

Friday’s games in the Cap Ripken Baseball tournament being hosted in Galesburg were canceled. That’s because the Geneseo teams reportedly pulled out of the tournament. That means the Galesburg teams will automatically advance to regional competitions, while the Galesburg 10-year-old team plays Evergreen Park today at 11am at Voyles Field for a state title.

LOCAL GOLF

Mack Foster has a four-stroke lead going into second round play today at the Galesburg Men’s All-City Golf Tournament. Foster shot a nine-under-par 62 to take the lead. Cody Reiber and Hunter Nesselroad each shot 66, followed by last year’s champion Jackson Wetherbee, who shot a 67. While yesterday’s play was at Bunker Links, today moves to Soangetaha Country Club.

Taylor Thompson’s two-under par 72 yesterday was enough to give the Knoxville woman the Galesburg All-City women’s title yesterday. Thompson’s 211 overall was 10 strokes ahead of Taylor Nesselroad, followed by Jordan Koehler, Cheri Hosteng, and Gail Hannam, who won the senior title. Carol Renander won the Kathy Dunn Memorial Trophy.
