Tomorrow night, Simmons Street will morph into a festival of food and fun for the 28th annual Taste of Galesburg.

The event, which saw roughly 6,000 people come and go last year, is gearing up for another spectacular night.

Event Coordinator Sue Dickinson, tells the WGIL Evening News the Taste was originally a part of Heritage Days, but they’ve come a long way since then.

“The ‘Taste’ was held inside the Galesburg High School parking lot,” Dickinson said.  “There was a giant tent, and all the food vendors were around the outside of the tent.  You would walk around and get what you wanted, and there were buses taking them.  I think some of the early Heritage Days things happened at the High School.”

Dickinson says because of the influx of people last year the layout will be different placing all the restaurants on the South side of Simmons street.

She also says they’ve bumped the number of vendors up from 17 to 24. It’s a five dollar admission and children under five are free. Tokens for food are purchased separately.
