A trip to the St. Louis Zoo was on the agenda today for the Galesburg American Legion baseball team, as they enjoyed a day off at the Third Division Tournament in Jerseyville.
Post 285 earned the free time by defeating Peoria 6-to-2 in last evening’s winner’s bracket game. Cal Morling went the distance to get the pitching victory, as he shutout Peoria through the first seven innings. Galesburg broke through with four runs in the bottom of the 7th, with the big blow being a 3-run double off the bat of Drake Sykes. Then in the 8th inning, Carson Cheeseman, Drew Nall, and Dylan Klinck all doubled, accounting for two more runs, and the team had extended their winning streak to eight games.
Next up is tomorrow night’s championship matchup with either East Moline or Peoria at 5pm. A second game would follow should Galesburg lose the first contest. At stake is a trip to next week’s state tournament in Arlington Heights.
