Mrs. Arloa “Jeri” Marie Bern, 85, of Wataga, Ill. died at 12:25 pm Tuesday, July 22, 2014 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center Peoria, Ill.
She was born September 15, 1928 in Iowa the daughter of Clifford and Bonita Simmons Ross. She married Max Kilgore in May of 1952 in Galesburg, Ill. She later married Harold L. Bern, Sr. on October 21, 1978 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1998.
She is survivied by her son, Brent Kilgore of Wataga, Ill.; her two daughters, Crystal (Jim) Dunsworth and Kim Norville both of Galesburg; her two stepsons, Harold “Butch” (Carol) Bern, Jr. and Michael Bern and her step daughter, Cindy (Mike) Drasites; her brother Mervin Gene (Sandra) Ross of Roseville, Ill.; eight grandchildren, David Kilgore, DeAnn (Josh) Williams, Jodi Oeth, Phillip Kilgore, Jeffrey (Carrie) Joseph, Dawn (Jon) Bowman, Kylee Norville and April (Marc) Zehr; sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her son, Kevin Kilgore.
She worked as a Tech 2 for over 40 years. She first worked for the former Galesburg State Research Hospital until it closed and then went to work for Zeller Mental Health Center in Peoria. She attended Roseville school and graduated from Galesburg High School. She was a member and very active of the AFSCME #31 Union. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and attended the Good News Baptist Church.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 pm Friday, July 25, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Lewis Woods will officiate. Visitation will be 12:00-1:30 pm Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
