Cathelyn, Virginia Hazel Urish

Virgie Hazel Urish Cathelyn, 71, of Galva, passed away quietly on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Toulon Health Care Center with her family by her side.

Cremation has been accorded and the gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM, Saturday, August 2 at the Church of Peace in rural Kewanee. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM. Rev. Dan Craig will officiate. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery followed by a luncheon in the church basement. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Church of Peace. Rux Funeral Home in Galva is in charge of arrangements.

She was born December 17, 1942 in Green Valley, IL, the daughter of Virgil and Dorothy Urish. She married Jack Cathelyn on April 29, 1988. He survives, as do a daughter, Christine K. Urish of Davenport, IA, step-sons, Brian Muth of Pekin, IL, Mario Muth of Arizona and Kevin Cathelyn of Braidwood, IL, grandchildren, Ashlie (William) Hamilton of Toulon, Jamie (Brittney) Schaab of Lindenwood, IL and Tabitha Reece and Michelle Rogers, both of Pekin and a great granddaughter, Mackenzie Hamilton of Toulon. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-son, Kevin Muth and daughter, Kamey Cathelyn.

Virgie graduated from Green Valley High School and attended Illinois State University. She held various positions throughout her working years. Upon the death of her father, who owned an insurance business, Virgie completed the requirements to obtain her insurance license and was the third generation to operate the Urish Insurance Agency in Green Valley, IL. After several years she sold the agency to Jim Donnley. She also had worked at the Daily Times, receptionist for Optometrist, Theodore Jennings, directed Children’s World Day Care Center in Pekin. Later she moved to Galva and worked for Country Companies.

She moved to Galva to live in her dream home with Jack. The beautiful painted lady home they shared was on the corner of NW 6th Ave. and Route 34.Virgie loved cooking, decorating and as well as decorating her home exquisitely for the holidays, collecting dolls, antiques and frogs, tending to her numerous plants and church activities and especially spending time with her family and friends.
