Man Pleads Not Guilty to Armed Robbery

WGIL Newsroom . Local News 193

8-29-14 Kedrick DickersonA Galesburg man could go to trial as soon as September on charges accusing him of holding up a man at gunpoint earlier this year.

19-year-old Kedrick Dickerson made the plea through his public defender yesterday on charges including Armed Robbery, Aggravated Battery, and another robbery count targeting the elderly or disabled.

Dickerson wasn’t arrested until earlier this month. Galesburg Police Detective Kevin Legate testified police were called to the two-thousand block of South Lake Storey Road in mid-March.

There, Legate says, a victim told officers several men attempted to rob him of money. Legate says a man identified by the victim as Dickerson pointed a dark-colored handgun at him, and got away with the man’s cellular phone.

He says, however, a gun is not believed to have been recovered.

A judge found probable cause for Dickerson to be tried, however, and scheduled a pre-trial conference for early September, and a potential trial for mid-September.

Dickerson remains held on the Knox County Jail on $100,000 bond.
