Fox, Peggy Lea

Mrs. Peggy Lea Fox 66, of rural Galesburg, died at 4:01 pm Thursday, July 31, 2014 at her home.

She was born November 16, 1947 in Evansville, Ind. She married John Patrick Fox on February 12, 1966 in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Quincy, Ill.

Peg is survived by her husband, John of Galesburg; four sons, Lance Fox of Columbia, Mo., Shea Fox of Manchester, Mo., Chad Fox of Cameron, Ill., and Nick Fox of Abingdon, Ill., and one daughter, Bree Fox of Galesburg; fourteen grandchildren and one brother, Keith Gerhardt of Qunicy, Ill. and one sister, Jaclyn Stroot of Quincy. She is preceded in death by her mother, Joan (Hey) Gerhardt, one sister, Kath-Ann Gerhardt Froeliger and one granddaughter, Megan Rae Davison.

She graduated from Quincy High School in 1965. She lived most of her married life in Abingdon and in rural Galesburg since 2007. She was a medical Secretary, and was the court stenographer for the Knox County Coroner’s Office for over 20 years. She worked with her husband for several years at Galesburg Castings, Inc. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Abingdon.

Peg was an avid reader and accomplished seamstress. She loved making beautiful heirloom dresses for her granddaughters. She and her husband traveled to all 50 states and many foreign countries. She loved animals of all kinds and always saw things from their side. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, boating and water skiing, motorcycling and riding ATVs with her grandchildren. She loved to entertain.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, August 4, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Visitation will be 1:00-3:00 pm Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Entombment will be in Abingdon Cemetery.
