Thomson, Donald E.

Donald E. “Gene” Thomson, age 88 of Nekoma, Woodhull, Illinois died at 2:05 P.M. on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg, Illinois.

He was born on April 12, 1926 in Astoria, Illinois the son of Virgil and Gladys Trimmer Thomson. He married Dorothy E. Sebastian on December 23, 1950 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona, Illinois. She survives of Nekoma, Illinois.

Surviving are his children: Linda Torbert of Galva, Illinois, Sheri Wood of Altona, Illinois, Virginia Verscheure of Kewanee, Randy Thomson of Nekoma, Illinois; a son-in-law, Gene Stone of Nekoma, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren and many many great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Sibyl Wilson of Phoenix, Arizona, Doris Yocum of Peoria, Illinois, Carroll Thomson of Yates City, Illinois, Wayne (Pat) Thomson of Oak Run, Dahinda, Illinois, Charlene (Stu) McKechnie of Elmwood, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Diane Stone, a daughter-in-law, Sherry, and two grandchildren, Shanna and Zachery.

He was a farmer and owned and operated Thomson Electric for many years, in the Nekoma, Illinois area. He served in the United State Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946; he received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one bronze battle star, Phillippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, the Victory Ribbon, Good conduct medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He enjoyed Fishing, hunting, and he was a real conservationist. He also enjoyed playing cards with his family.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona, Illinois. Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona, Illinois. Interment will take place at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Altona, Illinois. In-lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Family.
