Blake, Phyllis L.

Phyllis L. Blake, 94, of La Fayette, passed away peacefully, at the Toulon Health Care and Rehabilitation Center on August 6, 2014. She was born in Kewanee, to Vernard and Viola (Johnsen) Cederberg, on November 20, 1919. She was a 1937 graduate of Galva High School.

Phyllis married Ralph G. Blake, on February 13, 1943, in Pittsburg, CA. Only 8 years later, at age 34, he preceded her in death now by 63 years. She is survived by a son, Kris (Carol) Blake of Wyoming, IL and a daughter, Angela (Ralph) Galliford of Castle Rock, CO. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Leah (Joe) Levin, of Grayslake, IL, Laura Blake of Rock Island, IL and Blake Galliford of Denver, CO and two great-granddaughters, Alyssa and Anna Levin.

Phyllis was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Fred J. Wilkins Post 948 and, until recent years, an active member of the La Fayette United Methodist Church. A retired federal civil service employee, Phyllis was employed for 21 years as the Executive Secretary of the Henry County Selective Service. She served in this capacity during a particularly difficult time in our nation’s history. She was later employed in the accounting department at Boss Manufacturing Company.

Prior to her admission to Toulon Health Care in September 2011, Phyllis had resided in the same yellow shingled home in La Fayette for 66 years. She was proud to be a citizen of her Stark County village.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 11 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at the La Fayette Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the La Fayette Methodist Church or the La Fayette Ira C. Reed Library.
