A Chicago theater company called Silk Road Rising has an member of their company spending the fall semester at Knox College as a resident artist. The company contacted the Galesburg Public Library looking for their help to promote the actor’s original play that will be performed during their time at Knox College.
The library has been asked to host a civil discussion about the plays topic, which assistant library director Jane Easterly described as Muslim, Christian relations.
Easterly told the board they had a very specific reason for contacting the library.
“They contacted us, as they’re asking the Galesburg Community Foundation for money,” Easterly said. “They wanted partners to have letters saying, ‘yes, we will support this.’ We will be supporting this by hosting a civil discussion.”
Library Director Harriett Zipfel told the board they did go ahead and agree to support the project.
Not much information was able to be released about the project, and Easterly says the library won’t know more until the Galesuburg Community Foundation makes a decision.
