After previously discussing several items, including Bunker Links Golf Course, City Codes, and Financial Goals, aldermen will now be turning their attention to the revenue side of their budget.
In years past, the City Council has spent time reviewing revenue proposals made by the City’s Administration. Fees have been adjusted to maximize revenues but, according to City Manager Todd Thompson, the point is to attract revenue while not driving participants away.
The City of Galesburg is facing a more than $1 million deficit going into this fiscal year. When facing previous deficits, City Manager Todd Thompson has said cuts will be required before the City can credibly raise taxes.
After numerous requests seeking knowledge of the situation, the City has refused to provide details for tonight’s discussion.
The City Council will be providing direction, but exactly what that direction entails remains to be seen. Tonight’s meeting begins at 5:30 at Galesburg City Hall.
