Sharp, Charles W., Jr.

Charles W. Sharp., Jr., age 91 of rural Avon, died 8:45 pm Saturday, August 9, 2014 at Prairie View Care Center in Lewistown.

He was born on November 22, 1922 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the son of Charles W. and Mary (Mitchell) Sharp.

Surviving are seven sons, Charles Edward Sharp of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Eldon (and Becky) Sharp of Abingdon, Jerry (and Anita) Sharp of rural Roseville, Bobby (and Marilyn) Sharp of Sheridan, Indiana, Paul (and Helen) Sharp of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kenneth (and Robin) Sharp of Prairie City and David Sharp of Galesburg; one daughter, Erma Lee (and Calvin) Safirt of Pitts, Arkansas; two sisters, Nora Baker of Abingdon and Donna Jones of Bradenton, Florida; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

He grew up in Arkansas and served in the Army. He moved to Abingdon in 1967 and worked at Admirals/Maytag in Galesburg for 17 years, retiring in 1984. He later moved to rural Avon in 1988. He enjoyed his family, his dogs and hunting.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the Abingdon Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
