Robert Eugene Seiler, 83, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 9:34 AM Sunday, August 10, 2014 at his home.

He was born on July 12, 1931 in St. Augustine, Illinois to George Victor and Mable Lillian Swanson Seiler. He married Eva Marie Allen in Knoxville, Illinois on August 11, 1951.

Robert is survived by his wife, Eva Marie Seiler; two sons, David Eugene (and Rae) Seiler of Winter Springs, Florida and Bruce Allen (and Susan) Seiler of Castle Pines, Colorado; a sister, Pearl (and Jerry) Henderson of Galesburg; two nieces; five grandchildren, Monica O’Neil, Joshua (and Amelia) Seiler, Eric (and Celeste) Seiler, Audrey (and Greg Hamilton) Seiler and Luke (and Megan) Seiler; two step-grandchildren, Brittany (and Aaron) Bach and John Lang; and seven great-grandchildren, Riley, Conor, Sean, Nicholas, Elliott, Twila and Wallace.

Bob lived in the home where he was born until he was about 4 years old when the family moved to a home south of Altona. He attended school at Cummings School on the Altona-Victoria blacktop for six years; went to Kufus School in Altona for 2 years; to Altona High School and Oneida High School and graduated in 1949 from ROVA High School in Oneida (consolidation took place prior to this year.) He was a proud member of the ROVA basketball team which went to the Sweet Sixteen state tournament, and he enjoyed reminiscing about playing against the great Johnny (Red) Kerr. Bob was part of the 1949 basketball team that was inducted into the initial Hall of Fame of ROVA High School in 2013.

Bob was a Korean War veteran having enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in March 1951. He was stationed at the training base at Lackland Air Force Base at San Antonio, Texas, for 4 years where he attained the rank of Sgt., and was honorably discharged on March 12, 1955.

He was employed by Midwest Manufacturing Company (Admiral) from March 23, 1955, until his retirement on March 31, 1992, at which time it was Maytag Corp.

Bob was a Life member of American Legion Post 727 at Oneida, Illinois, where he had served as Commander, and he was very proud to have taken the Quad City Honor Flight to Washington DC in 2013 with other veterans; he was a member of the NRA; and a friend of First Christian Church. He was an avid trapshooter, having won several awards, and a trapper, hunter and fisherman in his younger years. He and Eva had followed the Galesburg Silver Streaks basketball and football teams for over 43 years, attending their games and supporting their causes. He enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers on TV, always saying “the Pack is back.” He enjoyed his morning coffee and donut with a group of old and new friends at Hy-Vee each day.

Bob will be sadly missed by his family whom he dearly loved and by each of those friends he met along the way.
