CHICAGO (AP) — Chicagoans will be watching when a team of young baseball players competes in the Little League World Series, especially residents of the boys’ south and southwest side neighborhoods.
City officials and the Chicago White Sox say they’ll host a watch party for the Jackie Robinson West All Stars, an all-black team of 11- and 12-year-olds. The team last qualified for the World Series in 1983.
The watch party will be held Thursday at Jackie Robinson Park, with the game shown live at 2 p.m. in an outdoor area.
The team is playing Lynwood Pacific at the World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the boys have “excited an entire city with their dedication and athleticism,” and he wants them to know that the city is “cheering them on.”
