Northwestern Turns Focus to Wins, Not Union

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — No college football program spent more time in the spotlight in the offseason than Northwestern. Now, the team hopes the headlines center on victories.

The Wildcats are ready to move on after a disappointing season and an offseason at the center of the debate over unionization.

Northwestern’s former quarterback Kain Colter led the push to form the first union for college athletes. Quarterback Trevor Siemian says the issue brought the team closer, saying it gave players a chance to “connect on things at a little bit of a higher level.”

How that translates to the field remains to be seen. Last year, the Wildcats stumbled to a 5-7 record and finished 1-7 in the Big Ten.
