UPDATE 11:22 AM 8/15/14 A new statement has been released from District 205 Superintendent Bart Arthur.
According to a press release, Arthur says both the School Board and the Galesburg Education Association have exchanged contract proposals through e-mail.
The electronic communication is taking place after the two groups exchanged words about meeting with a mediator in person sometime next week.
The Board of Education says they received a “supposal” from the GEA on Thursday afternoon that addressed contract talks, though few specifics were outlined.
The move follows the School Board attempting to address issues the teacher’s union had with workplace safety in the latest contract proposal.
According to the District’s release, the mediator is involved in the exchange process that is occurring through e-mail.
Included with the ongoing contract talks is another proposed agreement to the GEA that the School Board says could allow fall sports to resume practicing.
In an e-mail sent to members of the media, the GEA says they continue to “recognize the Board’s managerial rights in granting the waiver to allow the football team to practice.”
