WGIL Newsroom . Local News, State News 380

TOULON, Ill. (AP) — A Stark County judge has sentenced a Kewanee man to 24 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports 39-year-old Edward Eaton Jr. was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault in June. Prosecutors dropped a second count of the same charge in Eaton’s plea agreement.

The judge says the victim is someone who knew and trusted Eaton.

Defense attorney Ed Woller says Eaton has a history of mental illness as well as alcohol and drug abuse. He says his client’s record doesn’t include any prior sex crimes.
