Bailey, Richard A.

Richard A. Bailey, 87,of Knoxville, formerly of Alexis, died 12:50 P.M. Friday, August 22, 2014 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg.

He was born November 21, 1926 in Alexis, the son of Charles E., Sr and Allie Louise (Edelman) Bailey. He was raised and educated in Alexis and graduated from Alexis High School in 1944.

Rich served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II.

Richard married Joan “Jo” Anderson in Galesburg on June 26, 1957 and she preceded in death on May 13, 1996.

He owned and operated a service station in Alexis. After selling the station he owned and operated Standard Oil Bulk Truck for a number of years. He then drove a truck for FS and worked driving trucks for area farmers, and then drove vehicles for Lakis Ford in Galesburg. He enjoyed playing softball and pool.

He was a member of the Alexis Presbyterian Church and the James Harvey Scott American Legion Post 189 of Alexis.

Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Deborah (Edwin) Sugai of Galesburg and Pan (Kurt) Powell of Auburn, IL, one son, Richard A. Bailey, Jr. of Galesburg, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildrenl, his companion, Joyce Parkinson of Knoxville and two sisters, Joan Horn of Galesburg and Martha (Carl) Scott of Rock Falls, Il along with nieces and nephews.

His parents, wife, one bother and one sister preceded him in death.

Funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 25, 2014 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis. Burial with military honors will be in Alexis Cemetery. Friends may call at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis on Monday where his family will receive friends from noon until the time of service. Memorials may be left for the Alexis Fire Department or the James Harvey Scott American Post. Online condolences may be left at hooverhall.com.
