The area volleyball schedule picks up tonight, with many of the varsity teams seeing their first competition of the new season. The schedule shows Abingdon-Avon making the short trip to United High School; Knoxville plays at Stark County; ROWVA hits the road for Bushnell-Prairie City; and North Fulton hosts Beardstown.
The Normal U-High Invitational is the big golf event on the schedule today for high school boys’ teams. Monmouth-Roseville is competing there, but Galesburg had to miss the tournament, as the teacher’s strike continues to cause cancellations of Silver Streak’s athletics.
The college soccer season gets underway this evening for Carl Sandburg. The Charger’s men will host Illinois Central at the Knox County YMCA complex. The Chargers are coming off of a 15-5 season last year, the best in school history. Meanwhile, the Galesburg High School boy’s game against Geneseo scheduled for today was another victim of the teacher’s strike.
