HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

The Silver Streaks opened the 2014 campaign with an exciting win 26-22 win versus Moline — a game that, until Thursday, wasn’t a sure thing as the Galesburg teachers strike went on.  Here’s more from WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz.

Galesburg Christian School beat Quad City Christian 6-5. It’s the second year for the Galesburg team but first win in school history.

GOLF

The Monmouth-Roseville Boys Golf team took second in a four-team meet at Gibson Wood Golf Course. Quincy Notre Dame took first.

The GHS Girls Golf team will compete in the Rochester Invite today at Lincoln Greens in Springfield.

MIDWEST LEAGUE BASEBALL

The Peoria Chiefs split a doubleheader with the Beloit Snappers on Friday night after a rain out on Thursday, winning game one 10-4 but dropping game two 7-2. They’ll be in Kane County tonight.

The Quad City River Bandits also split a doubleheader dropping game one 1-0 but rallied to take a 6-4 win in game two against Clinton. They’ll play Burlington tonight who beat Wisconsin 4-2 last night.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Illinois opens the season at home against Youngstown State. Pregame coverage begins at 10am on AM-1400 WGIL.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL

St. Louis Cardinals play the Chicago Cubs in a day-night double-header today.  You can hear coverage of game one immediately following Illini Football on WGIL, with the game two broadcast at 6:40pm, also on WGIL.
