Martha R. Talbert, age 85, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Heritage Woods Assisted Living in Manteno, Illinois.

Martha was born March 29, 1929, in McDonough County to Ghlee and Louise Eathington Wilson. As a child her family moved to Galesburg where she lived until 2010 when she moved away to be closer to her daughter. On September 30, 1949, she married Herman J. Talbert in Galesburg. They built three homes over the years. He preceded her in death February 27, 1989. Martha was a homemaker and later in 1974 received her licensed practical nurse certificate. She then worked at Cottage Hospital for a few years. She also worked as a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital.

She is survived by one daughter, Julie (Tom) Uribe of Kankakee, IL, two sons, Jeffery (Barb) Talbert of Las Vegas, NV and John (Penny) Talbert of Westland, MI. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Michelle, Monica, Matthew, Justina, Joslyn and Xander and six great grandchildren, one sister, Betty (Edward) Britton of Montgomery, two brothers, Howard (Mary) Wilson, Larry (Janet) Wilson, and two sisters-in-law, Mary Leadbetter and Betty Lou Wilson, all of Galesburg and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Harold Wilson and one brother-in-law Dallas Leadbetter.

Martha was a lifetime member of Weight Watchers. She loved to read, cook, take walks and attend all events with her church, friends and family.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. with services to follow on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Galesburg. Inurnment will follow at the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
