Blixt, Paul A.

Mr. Paul A. Blixt, 91, of Galesburg died at 5:15 am, Saturday, September 6, 2014 in Rosewood Care Center.

He was born September 5, 1923 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Carl “Albin” and Eva Carlson Blixt. He married Betty Hogan on September 2, 1966 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on July 28, 2011.

He is survived by his step son Montey (Chris) Hogan of Galesburg; his step son-in-law, Larry Hovind of Galesburg; his brother, Vernon Blixt of Ventura, California; four grandchildren, nine grandchildren and two step grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother and step daughter, Phoebe Hovind on January 26, 2013.

Paul served as a Pfc.in the US Army 871 Airborne Engineers attatched to the 5th Air Force from February 1943 until December 1945, during WWII in the South Pacific. He received Bronze Battle Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, a Good Conduct Medal, a World War II Victory Medal and four overseas service bars.

He worked as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service for 25 years, retiring in 1984. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1941 and has lived in Galesburg his entire life. He was a member of the Dewdusters Golf League, lifetime member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. Paul was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Memorial Graveside Service will be 1:30 pm Tuesday at East Linwood Cemetery. Rev. Pamela Marolla will officiate. There will be no visitation. Military Rites will be conducted by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285. Cremation will be accorded. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
