Solomon, Eleanor A.

Eleanor A. Solomon, 99, of Galesburg, died at 5:09 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2014 in Kewanee Care Nursing Home.

She was born in McDonough County on July 29, 1915 the daughter of James and Amina Adaline (Martin) Robeson. She married Eddie Solomon on May 5, 1934 in Lewistown. He preceded her in death January 4, 2004.

She is survived by two children, Ursula (and Larry) Solomon McKee of Galesburg and Edward Solomon of Kewanee; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 23 great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Wayne Robeson of Dearborn, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Glen and Orville Robeson; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Solomon; and a great grandson, Brandon Keel.

Eleanor spent the first 15 years of her life in rural Macomb, where she was active in 4-H. After moving to Macomb in 1930, she was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and graduated from Western High School in 1934. Eleanor worked with the P.T.A., girl scouts, and boys softball while raising her children. After moving to Galesburg in 1958, she worked at Harvey Nursing Home, Knox College and at Galesburg Mental Health Center. She retired in 1982. She was a member of the Grandmother’s Club, I.S.E.A., and TOPS. Eleanor enjoyed traveling and visited many states over the years. She enjoyed cooking, reading, watching sports on T.V., and music. Eleanor attended Grace Anglican Church for the past nine years with her daughter.

Eleanor felt that the best thing that ever happened to her was having her babies. She thought it was such a miracle that God would trust her with anything so precious.

Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. with Father William Barnds officiating.
