Sandoval, John Joseph

Mr. John Joseph Sandoval, 61, of Galesburg died at 1:47 am Sunday, September 14, 2014 in Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg.

He was born April 23, 1953 in Galesburg the son of Joseph P. and Frances A. Mejia Sandoval. He married Geraldine Hathaway. He later married Deborah Wickert May. January 14, 2006 in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, John Robert (Joanna) Sandoval of Ft. Bliss, Texas and Timothy Richard (Daneille) Sandoval Woodruff of Davenport, Iowa; three daughters Tina Campos of Galesburg, Janice (Richie) Able of New Windsor, Illinois and Melissa DeVoss of Galesburg; two brothers, Joseph T. and Philip A. Sandoval both of Galesburg; one sister Martha (Jesus) Guzman of Galesburg; several nieces and nephews, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents.

John served in the US Army for 6 years and served 14 years and retired from the US Air Force as E-6.

He worked at Maytag Corporation until they closed. He also worked as a security guard for Cottage Hospital. He was currently working for Caterpillar Logistic Plant in Morton, Illinois. John graduated from Galesburg High School in 1971. He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285, the Galesburg Rifle Club and the Galesburg Running Club. John was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 pm Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Pastor Chris Nissley will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:30 pm Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285.
