Young, Floyd Allen

Floyd Allen Young, 81, of Galesburg, died at 9:28 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

Floyd was born April 15, 1933 in Kinderhook, IL the son of Wesley and Hilda Mabel Hines Young. He married Sheila C. Kennedy on January 12, 1963 in Galesburg. Floyd is survived by one son, John (Kelly) Young of Elmwood; one daughter, Amy (Scott) Roth of Galesburg; one brother, Robert (June) Young of Quincy; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Nick, and Emily Young, and Hank and Waylon Roth. He was preceded in death by his wife Sheila on May 14, 1999; a son, Edward A. Young on June 17, 2013; a brother, Carl (Frances) Young; and an infant brother Russell Young.

After graduating high school, Floyd served in the US Navy Reserves and the United States Air Force. Floyd went on to work as a conductor/brakeman for Burlington Northern Railroad for over 35 years, retiring in 1998. He Floyd enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting and spending time at his property near Wataga. He will be greatly missed by his family and dear friends who he spent time with at his favorite places, Harley’s Pub and the Corral. His family was grateful he had such dear friends and was able to stay independent.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg. Family and friends are invited to the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. to process to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to any veteran’s organization of their choice. A celebration of life will be 4-8 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Harley’s Pub in Galesburg.
