Stewart, James E.

James E. Stewart, age 84, of Knoxville, Illinois died at 8:51 A.M. on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Illinois.

He was born on December 9, 1929 in Coulterville, Illinois, the son of Harry E. and Edith (Shaw) Stewart. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 as an Air Policeman. He married Helen I. Peterson on April 4, 1958 in Victoria, Illinois.

Surviving is his wife of Knoxville, Illinois; two daughters, Cristine (Philip) Bates of Knoxville, Illinois and Carrie (Kirk) McKillip of Galesburg, Illinois; six grandchildren, Andy McKillip, Allison Bates, Kelsey McKillip, Hannah Bates, Will Bates, and Michael Bates; one sister, Lucille (Glen) Paulsgrove of Galesburg, Illinois; one brother, Blair (Joyce) Stewart of Galesburg, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

He worked for Admirals and Maytag for 35 years in several departments, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Alpha Masonic Lodge 155 A.F. & A.M. of Galesburg, Illinois; Order of Eastern Star 880 of Knoxville, Illinois serving as Worthy Patron 1994 & 1995; and the Senior Bowling Leagues in Galesburg, Illinois. He enjoyed woodworking, reading science fiction and comedy books, and mowing his yard.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. David Shreeves will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois, with Masonic Services at 7:00 P.M. conducted by the Alpha Masonic Lodge 155 A.F. & A.M. of Galesburg, Illinois. Interment will be at the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Knoxville First Christian Church.
