Martin, Robert Leo

Robert Leo Martin, 82, of Galesburg, died at 6:30 p.m., Monday, September 22, 2014 at home.

Bob was born the son of Harry and Esther Martin on October 4, 1931 in Niota. He married Yvonnie Nigermeyer on August 21, 1954. She survives. He is also survived by one son, Terry Martin of Gilson; one brother, Les Martin of Nauvoo; two sisters, Maxine Hall of Nauvoo and Ruth Piper of New London, IA; and two grandsons, Terris and Travis. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harold Martin.

Bob served in the US Army. After serving in the Army, Bob worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 10 years. He then worked as the school and city bus mechanic for several years. He eventually split off and created Galesburg Transit in March 1972, working as owner/operator with his wife. He ran the buses for over 40 years. Bob was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and Habitat for Humanity. He was one of the best mechanics around Galesburg and loved to collect and work on old cars.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Cremation rites will be accorded following visitation and burial of cremated remains will be at a later date.
