Hoover, Louise Gossett

Louise Gossett Hoover of Crowley, Texas, formerly of Monmouth, died September 16, 2014 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Cleburne, Texas.

She was born in Monmouth, IL on April 29, 1928 to Thomas Franklin (Pat) and Bina Laura (Smith) Gossett. She was raised and educated in Monmouth, attending the old Law School, north of Monmouth, and graduated from Monmouth High School (Class of 1946).

Louise was a well-trained violinist, instructed by the head of the music department at Monmouth College. For a time during her high school years, she and her best friend, Donna Johnson, had a radio program on the Galesburg radio station: Louise on the violin and Donna on the piano. She and her family were members of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she and several of her siblings, made their profession of faith and were baptized. She married Paul Hoover, Jr. May 11, 1947. During the Korean War, she worked in the Army Ordinance Plant in Burlington, IA. Louise later attended Burlington Beauty Academy, graduating in 1955, earning a cosmetology degree with honors. In 1957 she opened her own business, Louise’s Beauty Salon, on East 1st Street in the old American Legion Building. In 1967 she moved to Macomb, IL, when her husband was transferred with General Telephone Company. She left the field of Cosmetology and, using her business experience, worked for Waller Brothers Development Corp. as their bookkeeper, eventually rising to Comptroller in the company. After Waller Brothers was dissolved, she worked for other development companies in Galesburg and Virginia. She eventually moved to Indianapolis to be near her daughter and grandchildren and went into property management. She was then transferred to Sycamore, IL and later retired to Cincinnati, Ohio, again to be near her daughter. Since then, she followed her daughter and family to Kansas City, MO and then to Crowley, TX (near Fort Worth). Until last March she resided at St. Francis Village, a gated retirement community in Crowley. Since March her health had rapidly declined.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Laura Hoover (Philip) Kastner of Crowley, Texas, three grandsons, Philip (Jay) R. Kastner, Jr of Orlando, FL, Justin Paul (Lynn) Kastner of No. Bergin, NJ, and Christopher Eric (Jaisy) Kastner of Sunnyvale, TX, one great-randdaughter, Anjali Petersen, her sister-in-law, Lisa (Darrel) Gossett, many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers (Ralph, Lozel, and Darrel Gossett) and three sisters (Gertrude, Velna Tinder, and Virginia Drake).

A Memorial Service will be held at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth at 3:00 PM Saturday, November 1, 2014, with interment of ashes in Warren County Memorial Park immediately afterwards. The family will receive friends one hour before the Memorial Service begins. Online condolences may be left at hoover-hall.com.
