Adams, Maynard D.

Maynard D. Adams, 80, of Ormond Beach, FL and former longtime resident of Oneida, Illinois, died Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Florida Memorial Hospice Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Maynard was born January 1, 1934 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Stanley and Marie Adams. He married Kathryn Joan Melton February 27, 1953 in Rio, Illinois. Together they had three children.

Maynard will be sadly missed by his wife of 61 years, Kathryn Joan Adams; by his children: Judy (Richard) Preston, Ormond Beach, Florida, Kathy (Jeff) Heist, Inverness, Illinois, Rich (Kerry) Adams, Holly Springs, North Carolina; grandchildren: David (Lauren) McMaster, Adam (Emily) McMaster, Brian McMaster, Abegail Adams, Olivia Adams, Madeline Adams; step granddaughter, Day (Ryan) Joly; great grandchildren: Adelle McMaster, Lincoln McMaster; step great grandchildren: Alexa and Preston Joly. He is also survived by one brother, Gale (LaVonne) Adams and many nieces and nephews. Maynard was predeceased by his parents and one sister Virginia (Gene) Cruce.

Maynard started his career in refrigeration when he was 17, working at the same location for 45 years under the ownership of Midwest Manufacturing Co., Admiral Corp., Rockwell International, Magic Chef Corp, and Maytag. He retired as Superintendent of Plastics in 1996.

When he retired he moved to Florida, playing golf and traveling. He answered to the name of “Wimp,” but always said, “Don’t let the name fool you.”

Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the Lohman Funeral Home Ormond, Florida. A second visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory in Oneida, Illinois. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Oneida, Illinois. Inurnment will be at Oneida Cemetery.
