Buster KelloggBuster LaVerne Kellogg, Sr., 90, of Monmouth, died 7:45 A.M. Wednesday, October 15, 2014.

He was born August 29, 1924 at Aledo, Illinois, the son of Charles O. and Mary H. (Marple) Kellogg.

He was married to Jean Rozbursky and they had two children. He later married Mary Wittenmeyer and they had three children. He is survived by his five children, Mary Kellogg (John) Joslyn of Sevierville, Tennessee, Buster, Jr. (Jane) Kellogg of Monmouth, Deborah (Rodney) Smith of Monmouth, Phillip (Debora) Kellogg of Brooklyn, New York, Janice Kellogg of Newberg, Oregon, four grandchildren, Scott (Amy) Kellogg of Chicago, Lucy (Kent) Thompson of Monmouth, Ann (Anuj) Lal of Chicago, Cory Smith of Monmouth, four great grandchildren and one brother, David Kellogg of Rochelle, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Kellogg Pople.

Bus graduated from Monmouth High School in 1943. He proudly served in the Illinois State Militia followed by U.S. Army Corp from 1943-1946. He was the recipient of a Presidential Citation during his military service during World War II.

Bus was involved in the newspaper and printing business for his entire life. He got an early start in the newspaper business, receiving the National Paperboy of the Year in 1937, at age thirteen.

He returned to Monmouth in 1946, working at the Review Atlas and subsequently purchasing the commercial department of the Review Atlas in 1955 and forming Kellogg Printing Company. He proudly worked in the same building for 62 years, working for many years with 2 of his children, truly making a family business.

Bus’s love of Monmouth was evident in many ways, including being named Citizen of The Year in 1989. He served as the President of several organizations including Junior Chamber of Commerce, Monmouth Chamber of Commerce, Exchange Club and the Warren County Prime Beef Festival. Bus was the City Health Officer and served on the Warren County Board and the United Way Board.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Monmouth County Club, Monmouth Elks Club and the American Legion Post 136.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Monday, October 20, 2014 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth with Rev. Jon Sims of the First United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the committal there will be cocktails and sharing of memories from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the Monmouth Country Club. Memorial may be left for Rainbow Riders.
