Smith, Donald Randy

Donald Randy Smith, 64, of Galesburg, went to be with the Lord at 8:56 p.m. Friday, October 24, 2014 at home.

Randy was born May 28, 1950 in Galesburg, the son of Donald W. and Joann Clevenger Smith.  Randy is survived by his mother, Joann of Galesburg; one brother, Jeff (Debbie) of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, Don on July 2, 2014; one brother, James David Smith; one sister, Tammy Smith; and one niece, Tammy Smith.

Randy graduated from Carl Sandburg College with a degree in Criminal Justice.  He worked at Gates Rubber Co. for over 30 years, retiring in 2012.  Randy was a member of United Steel Workers, Local 685.  After he retired from Gates, Randy worked at Lowe’s for a time. Randy served as an emergency policeman in Galesburg for many years.  He was a member of Colonial Baptist Church, where he could be found running the sound system on Sunday’s that he helped install.  Randy also enjoyed being a D.J. and was known as Rockin’ Randy.  He enjoyed his corvette and had won many trophies at area car shows.  He was a past member of the Corvette Club.  He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed watching wrestling, and had taken Tae Kwon Do.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Colonial Baptist Church, Pastor Darrell Grimm will officiate.  Burial will follow in Rio Baptist Cemetery, rural Rio.  Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Colonial Baptist Church.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
