Wood, Patrick Owen

Patrick Owen Wood, 53, of Galesburg, died at 7:55 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at home.

Pat was born August 3, 1961 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Roy Owen and Faye Huff Wood. He married Barbara Ruth Parkinson on November 19, 2010 in Galesburg. Pat is survived by his wife Barb; his mother, Faye Wood of Carmi; a son, Kyle of Mt. Carmel; two daughters, Amanda (Mike) Gammell of Belfountain, OH and Megan of Carmi; a brother, Kurt of Indianapolis, IN; a sister, Kim of Carmi; six grandchildren; and his loyal beloved boxer, Demsey. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy.

Pat was extremely proud of receiving his GED on May 15, 2013. Pat worked many hard and long years, working at Tenant Truck Lines for 12 years; he then owned and operated Woodco Trucking Company in the 1980’s and 1990’s. He was also in partnership with his father and grandfather at Southern Triangle Oil Production and Drilling, based in Robson Texas and Carmi. He also farmed in Texas and southern Illinois.

Pat was an avid Illini Fan, along with the Chicago Bears and the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved to cook and study history. Pat was never at a loss for words as he possessed the gift of gab. But most of all Pat loved spending time with his family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held 1-3 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made in Pat’s memory to Camp Kidz, Knox County Humane Society, or to the Lois Parkinson Scholarship Fund through the Adult Education Program at Carl Sandburg College.
