Mahnesmith, Joan Adams

Joan “Nana” Adams Mahnesmith, 71, of Galesburg, died at 11:57 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Joan was born August 12, 1943 in Laura, the daughter of Norman and Mabel Benge Adams. She married Wesley Mahnesmith in Burlington, Iowa. Nana is survived by one daughter, Dana Maxwell of Galesburg; five sisters, Linda Underwood of Galesburg, Stella Skinner of Quincy, Edith Salisbury of Dunnegan, MO, Betty McKenzie of Yellville, AR, and Marilyn Grimm of Galesburg; two grandchildren, Katrina Sibley and Ryan Maxwell; and two great grandchildren, Noah Maxwell and Corianna Perry of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley on June 6, 1992; her parents, three brothers, William, Norman, and Ervin; and one sister, Barbara Adams.

Joan worked as a LPN for over 50 years in home health care. She loved to read and play bingo, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the VFW 1001 Michigan Ave., Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the family for her grandchildren. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
