Rutledge, Gordon H.

Gordon H. Rutledge, 88, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 9:02 pm Sunday, October 26, 2014 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

He was born August 9, 1926 in McDonough County, Illinois the son of John F. and Lena Fern Heffner Rutledge. He married Wilma O’Donnell in Canton, Illinois in 1948.

He is survived by three sons, Brian D. Rutledge of Galesburg, Terry W. (Linda) Rutledge of Birmingham, Iowa, Mike (Dena) Rutledge of Tenino, Washington; two daughters, Janet Taylor of Galesburg and Amy (Brian) Kargus of Atlanta, Georgia; his brother, Gerald Rutledge of Fairview, Illinois; his sister, Betty Ellis of Rock Island, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Darlene Rutledge of Ripley, Illinois; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Doyle and Roland Rutledge, one sister, Juanita Williams and his son-in-law, Roger Taylor.

Gordon served in the US Army during WWII.

He worked for the former CB & Q Railroad, now Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a conductor for over 35 years. He retired in 1988. He was a member of the United Transportation Union.

Graveside service are scheduled for 11:15 am Friday, October 31, 2014 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be from 10-11 am Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Disease Foundation. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
