Marvin S. Bloomer, age 82, of Rural Maquon, Illinois died at 12:15 A.M. on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Rosewood Care Center of Galesburg, Illinois.He was born on April 11, 1932 in Avon, Illinois the son of William John and Phyllis Jean Poiset Bloomer. He married Emma Mae Platt in 1951. He then, married Judi A. Hanet in Kahoka, Missouri on April 2, 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Judi of Maquon, Illinois; two children, Alan T. (Cathy) Bloomer of Maquon, Illinois, and Debra (Ron) Root of Galva, Illinois; two stepchildren, Michael A. (Amy) Clark of Chillicothe, Illinois, and Thomas E. (Julie) Clark of Ashtabula, Ohio; five grandchildren, Christine Mason of Knoxville, Illinois, Steven (Shelly) Bloomer of Maquon, Illinois, Jamie (Chad) Way of Gilson, Illinois, Jim Bloomer of Maquon, Illinois, Jennifer (Shaun) Robinson of Galva, Illinois; seven step grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; one sister, Shirley (Kenneth) Lock of Avon, Illinois, and one sister-in-law, Betty Bloomer of Salinas, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Wayne and one grandson, Brian Root.

He worked for the United States Postal Services for over 30 years, retiring as the Maquon Postmaster in Maquon, Illinois. He served in all five branches of the United States Military for thirty years, serving active duty in Korea as an MP in the United States Army and retiring as Chief Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He was an avid gun collector; he enjoyed reading and fishing, and furthering his education receiving his Associate’s Degree from Carl Sandburg College and Bachelor’s Degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Krey Leesman will officiate. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 P.M. on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Interment will take place in the Maquon Cemetery, Maquon, Illinois. Fellowship will be held at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home Center following the interment at the cemetery.
