Courson, Kenneth

Kenneth A. “Pete” Courson, age 76 of Avon, died at 8:26 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.He was born November 9, 1937 in Abingdon, the son of T. Emery and Eleanor I. Danner Courson.  He married Carol Anderson on October 17, 1956 at the Christian Church in Abingdon.

Pete is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carol;  his children, Jeanette Bricker of Avon, Jeff Courson of Peoria and Kenneth Ron Courson of Macomb; six grandchildren, Heather Damron, Justin McLaren, Jessica (Daniel) Paul, Jared Courson, Kindra (John) Mumma and Trevor Courson; eight great-grandchildren: and one sister, Audrey Franklin of Galesburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James R. Courson.

He grew up in Abingdon and attended Abingdon schools.  He had lived in the Avon area the past 37 years.  He was a heavy equipment operator for the Abingdon Rock Quarry and Moline Consumers Quarry for 45 years.  He attended the Prairieland Open Bible Church in Prairie City.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, working in his yard, gardening and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.  Pastor Joe Olson will officiate.  Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel.
