Harvestime Sharathon hits goal and then some

The Harvestime Sharathon took place yesterday on WGIL to raise donations for the Galesburg Rescue Mission.

The goal of $50,000 was soared past, pulling in over $66,000.

The total came from 549 contributors calling into WGIL or who were called upon from a phone bank at The Register Mail.

The 11 hour telethon featured a slate of community members and local dignitaries such as State Representative, Don Moffitt and Galesburg Mayor John Pritchard who read an official proclamation from the city and shared his feelings to the Sharathon on the importance the Rescue Mission has for the community.

“I wish we lived in a world where there weren’t people who needed a rescue mission, but in the real world there are people,” Pritchard says. “The mission provides great service to people who need it.”

Representative Moffitt commended the Rescue Mission team on giving people a better life, both spiritually and physically.

“We would really be at a loss without the rescue mission and what you do,” Moffitt says. “We appreciate the fact that you are here.”

Proceeds will go towards helping the Rescue Mission with their utilities.

Donations will also go towards providing Christmas baskets of food to hungry families during the Holiday season.

Sign up for Christmas baskets starts on December 1st.

They’ll also be providing a Thanksgiving lunch this Thursday.
