Skinner, Stella Elizabeth

Stella Elizabeth Skinner, 81 of Galesburg, died at 7:28 p.m. Wednesday November 19, 2014, at Sunset Homes, Quincy, Illinois.

Stella was born July 19, 1933, in Lancaster, Kentucky, the daughter of Norman and Mabel Benge Adams. On August 3, 1950, she married Cecil Skinner in Galesburg.

Stella is survived by one son, Russell Skinner of Gilson, Illinois; one daughter, Shirley Morrison (Dan) of Quincy, Illinois; a nephew, Westley Sphar (Jill) of Osceola, Indiana; four sisters, Linda Underwood of Galesburg, Edith Salisbury (Max) of Dunnegan, Missouri, Betty McKenzie of Yellville, Arkansas, and Marilyn Grimm (David) of Hills, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Ruby Skinner of Richmond, Indiana, Marcella Adams of Galesburg and Reva Ingles of Johnson City, Illinois; two grandsons, Daniel Morrison (Sherri) and Robbie Skinner; one granddaughter, Brandy Skinner; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Morrison, Jared and Joey Brown, and Riley and Nicole Skinner; and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, on June 12, 2009; her parents; three brothers, William, Norman, and Ervin; two sisters, Barbara Adams and Joan Mahnesmith; and one granddaughter, Jennifer Jean Skinner.

Stella worked as a Remotivation Specialist for 36 years for the state of Illinois. That employment included Galesburg Research Hospital until it closed, and then finished her career at the Zeller Mental Hospital in Peoria, Illinois. Stella was a life time member of the McCullum Chapel and Emmanuel United Methodist Church until its closing. She loved to read, grow flowers, work on genealogy, camping, counted cross stitch, and was known for her cookie making skills, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. As a special note, she was so proud of her nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Mr. Mike Lummis officiating.
