Hanson, W. Dale

W. Dale Hanson, 85, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 7:20AM Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born on July 6, 1929 in Monmouth, Illinois to Willard and Edna Ranney Hanson. He married JoAnn Gawthrope on August 27, 1949 in Monmouth. She preceded him in death on November 12, 2004. He then married Phyllis Granberg Woolley on June 10, 2006 in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Ron Hanson of Dixon, Illinois, Jon Hanson of Guernsey, Wyoming, Rodney (and Cheryl) Hanson of Galesburg and Scott Hanson of New Orleans, Louisiana; two daughters, Linnea (and Mark) Flesher of Merrillville, Indiana and Linda (and Gary) Hanson-Dorst of Beaverton, Oregon; one step son, Lee James (and Elizabeth) Woolley of Naperville, Illinois; one step daughter, Lisa Kay (and Larry) Shillock of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; a daughter-in-law, Terry Hanson of Cameron, Illinois; a brother, Jerry (and Doris) Hanson of Galesburg; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Hanson, and a sister, Ruth Johnson.

Dale farmed in the Warren and Knox County areas for over 40 years. He also worked in security at Carl Sandburg College for 10 years.

He served in the Illinois National Guard based out of Monmouth.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg. He was also a member of the Cattlemen’s Association and an original member of Choral Dynamics of Galesburg. He was a 1947 graduate of Galesburg High School.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 5, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery.
